Resource Alignment: Curriculum Support in the School Library Media Center

Goal: To align resources in the SLMC so that teachers and students have all the instructional support they need to do assignments and to read for pleasure. Activities include strategies for assessing, weeding, and adding resources to build a collection that supports the curriculum, and creating five-year resource development and budget plans to keep them up-to-date and in good condition.

Grant Writing Level I:

Fundamental Training

Goal: To introduce the essential components of grant proposals, provide tips on writing effective proposals, examine in detail need and problem statements, and learn to search for grant sources. Handouts provided.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Grant Writing

Level II:

Advanced Training

Goal: Using grant proposals brought in, participants will write need and problem statements for critiquing. The facilitator will also assist participants in writing goals and objectives if time permits. Level I Grant Writing workshop (or equivalent) required. Handouts provided.

 

 

 

 

 

 

MCPAI-R Training for Principals

Goal: The performance appraisal instrument for NC media coordinators (specialists) is still in effect; training in the instrument is strongly recommended prior to principals or assistant principals using it to evaluate personnel. Karen is certified by the state to provide the training. The training for principals is different from the training offered to media coordinators; this session focuses on how to validate job performance; the media session focuses more on how to document job performance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

MCPAI-R Training for Media Coordinators

The training for media coordinators is different from the principals’ session; this one is focused more on how to document compliance with job expectations; the principals’ version focuses on how to validate the job performance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Using the Media Center to Impact Student Achievement

Goal: To become familiar with the latest research linking the media specialist and the media center resources to higher student achievement. Includes strategies for using the media specialist and media center resources more effectively.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Assessing Student Learning in the School Library Media Center Goal: To overview the research that has been done in the area of assessing student learning, various assessment instruments that already exist (rubrics, checklists, etc.), and to learn about sources that available to help media specialists evaluate student learning.
